The true locals’ beach, Folly Beach has a relaxed, fun vibe that keeps people coming back. The barrier island features six miles of beach houses ranging from charming bungalows to massive oceanfront mansions. Center Street offers an array of renowned restaurants, laid-back bars, and beach shops, and the newly-renovated Holiday Inn has luxurious accommodations and one of the best beach-front bars in the area.
The ends of the island are more remote and natural, offering a haven for wildlife and visitors in search of a more secluded beachgoing experience. On the far north end of the island, you can see the abandoned Morris Island lighthouse in the water just off the shore. Surfers flock to “the Washout” for some of the best surfing in area, and fishermen take full advantage of having access to the state’s longest fishing pier.
Often referred to as the “Edge of America,” Folly Beach is an eclectic beach town 15 minutes from downtown. “Folly Beach is a place where community rules,” says Eve Olasov, broker-in-charge and owner of Luxury Land and Homes, Inc. “This is a tight-knit community with a real sense of belonging,” says Olasov. “Old meets new while the spirit and flavor of Folly remains unmistakably the same. There’s something really special about Folly Beach, and it doesn’t take long to fit in and relax to the beat and lifestyle unmistakably Folly Beach.” The median home price is $608,600.
