Go back in time on Edisto Island, by far the least commercialized of the Charleston area’s beaches. A truly old-fashioned beach community, the island offers a small selection of authentic seafood restaurants and local shops. The island’s Botany Bay Plantation is a nearly 5,000 acre tract of land managed by the Department of Natural Resources. Visitors can explore the plantation house’s ruins, slave quarters, sunflower fields, an expansive lake, and two miles of beach.
